our Story

In 1983, when Darby Street was just beginning to grow into a place where people gathered to eat, talk, and spend time together, Emilio and Barbara Falcon opened the doors to a small Italian restaurant with a big heart.

From the very beginning, Emilio’s was built on honest cooking and the kind of hospitality that made people feel at home. Alongside their three children Angelina, Carlo, and Caterina, they created a space known for traditional Italian food made with care.

A smiling older man with glasses, gray hair, a red cap, and a white polo shirt, preparing drinks behind a bar counter in a cafe or restaurant.
A man wearing a striped shirt, apron, and hat is removing a pizza from an oven in a pizzeria kitchen.

The ingredients were fresh, the recipes came from memory, and the kitchen was stocked the same way as their home, with daily deliveries of quality produce, chosen by hand.

Specials were inspired by the season, the weather, or simply what they were feeling that day.

Homemade pasta and pizzas became a trademark, and for years, Emilio’s was known as a place where “The food felt like it came from someone’s home”, because it did.

A place where customers felt like family.

Two women, a chef and a server, smiling while serving spaghetti in a restaurant kitchen with shelves of glasses and dishes in the background, in a black and white photo.
A man with glasses, wearing a hat and striped shirt, tossing a pizza dough into the air.
A man in a white shirt, striped apron, and cap serving various dishes of food, including pizza and pasta, in a restaurant or kitchen setting.

Now, more than four decades later, that same spirit lives on in both Warners Bay and The Junction, two neighbourhoods where people still come to meet, eat, and share time together.

The family and team behind Emilio’s continue what he started:

Bringing people together over good food, in a warm and familiar setting.
